Continuous process and apparatus for preparing aqueous polymer dispersions

The present application describes an apparatus for continuously making an aqueous polymer dispersion comprising:
a) means (5) for continuously forming a heterogeneous mixture of an organicliquid phase and an aqueous phase;
b) at least one homogenizing device (6) having an inlet opening (7) and an outlet opening (8);
c) conduits (12) for interconnecting said means (5) for continuously forming said heterogeneous mixture to the inlet opening (7) of the at least one homogenizing device (6);
d) means (9) for separating the effluent from the at least one homogenizing device (6) connected to the outlet opening (8) of said at least one homogenizing device (6) into a first stream (10) and into a second stream (11); and
e) means for recovering the aqueous polymer dispersion;
characterized by
f) conduits (13) for passing the first stream and connecting the separating means (9) to a conduit junction (15) positioned between the means (5) for forming the heterogeneous mixture and the inlet opening (7) of the same homogenizing device (6) or the inlet opening of another homogenizing device that is not downstream with respect to the flow direction from said homogenizing device (6) and
a method for continuously making an aqueous polymer dispersion.
