An apparatus and a method for channel estimation in a broadband wireless communication system are provided to normalize the gain and power of a boosted signal during a channel estimation process. An apparatus for channel estimation in a broadband wireless communication system comprises the followings: a boosting confirming unit(311) for deciding a boosting factor by determining whether each area of a receiving signal is boosted or not; a boosting factor selecting unit(313) which selects the boosting factor for compensating a boosting value of a channel estimation value according to whether each area is boosted or not through control of the boosting confirming unit(311); and a multiplier which compensates the boosting value of the channel estimation value by multiplying the channel estimation value by the boosting factor.
