A method for controlling display and sound in a television is provided to turn on/off a display driver or a sound driver according to a corresponding option of an automatic on/off setting menu when a designated time has come, thereby reducing power consumption and improving convenience of a user. A method for controlling display and sound in a television comprises the following steps of: analyzing a control command inputted from a user through a remote controller(S100,S101); outputting an automatic on/off setting menu on a television screen when the control command is a reservation on/off function command(S102); checking each option of the outputted automatic on/off setting menu, and receiving a "confirm" button before storing setting information in an internal memory(S103); checking whether a designated time has come by checking an internal timer after the on/off setting option information is stored(S104,S105); and if so, turning on/off a display driver or a sound driver according to the preset options(S107).
