An apparatus for detecting a key inputting operation in a mobile communication terminal and a method thereof are provided to make the mobile communication terminal not be driven in case that keys such as a side key exposed outside of the terminal are pushed but their operation is not caused by a user's intention. An apparatus for detecting a key inputting operation in a mobile communication terminal comprises a touch sensor(201) and a controller(202). The touch controller(201), attached at a lower part or an upper part of a side key(101), senses a touch on a button. The controller(202) receives an output of the touch sensor(201) via other port. The controller(202) determines a key inputting operation caused by a user' intention only in case that the controller receives data from both the side key(101) and the touch sensor(201).
