A method for treating osteoarthritis with proanthocyanidin is provided to meaningfully help the recovery of articulation by excellent metalloprotease inhibition activity of the proanthocyanidin and a metabolite thereof. The method for treating a patient suffering from osteoarthritis to reduce joint pain, joint stiffness or joint inflammation in the patient comprises a step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of a composition including essentially of proanthocyanidin to the patient. In the method, about 20 mg to 10 grams per patient per day of proanthocyanidin is administered daily for a period of at least 30 days, at least 60 days, at least 90 days or at least 120 days.
