ENTRAPPING IMMOBILIZATION PELLETS AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

Provided are entrapping immobilization pellets which have high pellet strength and maintain stable and high microbial activity(nitrification activity) although materials involved in immobilization such as an immobilizing material and a polymerization initiator have a low concentration, and a method for producing the same. In entrapping immobilization pellets in which microorganisms are entrapped and immobilized in an immobilizing material, the entrapping immobilization pellets contains a filler having a plate-shaped and/or needle-shaped crystal structure in the immobilizing material. The plate-shaped and/or needle-shaped filler is an inorganic filler. The plate-shaped and/or needle-shaped filler has an average particle diameter of 12 mum or less. In a method for producing entrapping immobilization pellets in which microorganisms are entrapped and immobilized in an immobilizing material, the method comprises: mixing the immobilizing material with a filler having a plate-shaped and/or needle-shaped crystal structure; and mixing the mixture with the microorganisms to gelate the microorganisms.
