A method for searching a channel of a digital television receiver by using automatic scan is provided to repeatedly attempt a step for decrypting broadcasting information which is transmitted through a frequency of the channel in order to catch the broadcasting channel without missing, thereby catching the broadcasting channel without missing irrespective of external environment factors during a channel searching process, and accordingly providing an exact broadcasting service. A method for searching a channel of a digital television receiver by using automatic scan comprises the following steps of: searching a broadcasting signal of each channel, on which a carrier is loaded, as upping a frequency according to stages(S12); determining whether there is the broadcasting signal(S14); if not, determining that the channel has no broadcasting signal, and if so, detecting the broadcasting signal(S16,S18); decrypting broadcasting information included in the detected broadcasting signal(S20); determining whether the decrypted broadcasting information is normal(S22); and if so, storing and updating the broadcasting information on a channel map before registering the broadcasting information, and if not, returning to the above step for decrypting the broadcasting information(S24,S26,S28).
