The present invention provides a method for producing L-fuculose and L-fucose which is suitable as an industrial method. L-Fuculose is synthesized from L-fucitol in the presence of a microorganism-derived protein having a dehydrogenase activity to produce L-fuculose from L-fucitol. The reaction system preferably contain NADH oxidase. L-Fuculose thus synthesized is then converted into L-fucose.
