A DC braking method for stopping an induction motor, wherein during a shift from a normal control state to a DC braking state, the torque shock caused by an abrupt change in the output current phase is suppressed below a predetermined value. The procedure of this method is as follows. During a shift from a normal control state to a DC braking state, the output voltage phase during the DC braking state is predicted by calculation based on a phase that leads by a predetermined DC braking commencement due to a given DC braking commencement frequency or a combination of a reduced rate and the given DC braking commencement frequency and based on the output voltage phase of the normal control state at the moment of shifting to the DC braking state. Then, the power converter is controlled to suppress the abrupt change in the output current phase, thereby suppressing the torque shock caused by such abrupt change below the predetermined value.
|
