Nonwoven comprising a layer of endless filaments, process of manufacturing and its use as cleaning cloth

Non-woven fabric (I) comprising at least one mat of discontinuous thermoplastic fibres, in which the mat (A) is hydro-bonded with an unstretched sheet (B) of continuous, inelastic, independent and randomly-oriented filaments and the non-woven (I) has a density of not more than 0.06 g/cm 3>. An independent claim is included for a method for the production of (I) by (a) calendering a sheet of filaments (B) as above at a temperature below the melting point of the material in the sheet and at a pressure of less than 50 N/mm, (b) making at least one mat (A) as above, (c) hydro-intertwining (bonding) (A) and (B) with a bonding energy of less than 0.25 kWh/kg to obtain a wet non-woven fabric and (d) drying the product from step (c).
