Ophthalmic surgery apparatus

The apparatus has a vacuum pump arrangement with two parallel connected pumps (10, 12), and a bypass opening (22) that is inserted downstream to the pumps and in an evacuating channel system (16). A control unit (24) is coupled with the bypass opening and is arranged to control an external air discharging section of the bypass opening for controlling pressure in the evacuation channel system. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an ophthalmic surgery apparatus.
