A portable terminal having a function of controlling a USB operation of an assistant controller by using a USB transceiver is provided to reduce waste of an internal space and cost by eliminating unnecessary components. A portable terminal having a function of controlling a USB operation of a sub controller by using a USB transceiver comprises a main controller(210), a connecting unit(270), a USB transceiver(220), an assistant controller(230), the third switching unit(260), the first switching unit(240) and the second switching unit(250). The main controller(210) communicates data with a USB cable via the USB transceiver(220), and controls a transmission path of data to be transmitted to an external device. The connecting unit(270), connected to the USB cable, receives USB driving power and data from the external device. The USB transceiver(220) transmits USB cable recognizing voltage and pull-up voltage to the assistant controller(230) by using the USB driving voltage received by the connecting unit(270). The assistant controller(230) generates a pull-up activating signal, activates electrically the third switching unit(260), thereby receives the pull-up voltage from the USB transceiver(220) and communication data with the USB cable according as the connection of the USB cable is recognized by the USB cable recognizing voltage from the USB transceiver(220). The third switching unit(260) gets electrically activated by the pull-up activating signal from the assistant controller(230) and supplies the pull-up voltage for the assistant controller(230). The first switching unit(240) and the second switching unit(250) activate a data transmission path to the main controller(210) or the assistant controller(230) according to a control signal from the main controller(210).
