A dish washer and a control method thereof are provided to display the dish washer driven time according to temperature of cleaning water at a region where the dish washer is used and to accurately show users information about the driven time. In a dish washer, a water heating time measuring system comprises: a heater(50) for heating cleaning water stored at a sump; a control unit(60) for measuring the time for heating the cleaning water to a preset temperature by the heater; a display unit(70) for showing the water heating time measured by the control unit; and a memory unit(80) for memorizing the measured heating time. The heater transmits the time for heating the cleaning water to a preset temperature into the control unit. The memory unit memorizes the time taken according to a course and option of the dish washer and basic value about the heating time. The control unit transmits the heating time and predicted cleaning time into the memory unit.
