A device and a method for controlling channel information of a digital image system are provided to integrate channel control between a cable box and the digital image system, and update and store changed channel information in the digital image system in real time, thereby effectively realizing channel conversion. In a method for controlling channel information of a digital image system, a microcomputer analyzes received return data and determines whether the return data is information of a channel requested by itself(S501). A bit value for the corresponding channel is set to "1" in an NVRAM(Non-Volatile Random Access Memory) if so(S502). The microcomputer sets data from the requested channel number before a channel number for the return data to "0" and store the same in the NVRAM if not(S506). And, the corresponding channel number is set to '1' to be stored in the NVRAM(S507). After bit setting for the channel number is finished, the microcomputer increases the set channel number by 1 to select a next number(S503) and checks whether the selected channel number belongs to a change map data transmitted from a guide(S504). The microcomputer transmits a message for requesting information for a channel to the guide if the channel number does not reach '60'(S505).
