A device for protecting a gutter having a rear wall (14), front wall (20) an d a bottom wall (18), the walls defining a trough there between, the device comprising a guard member (36) having generally planar central portion (38) with one side (40) thereof having an inverted U-shaped configuration (44, 46 , 48) designed to fit over an upper marginal edge of the rear wall (14) of the gutter while at the other side, there is provided an overflow wall (52). The guard and gutter are attached directly to a supporting structure by means of screws or other mechanical fastening devices.
