A method of creating maize lines and hybrids with improved protein and starch quality includes provision of the high amylopectine content in the starch by using a wx mutation. To provide the powder consistency of the grain, the high content of starch and essential amino acids and lowering the alcoholûsoluble protein content therein a gene recombination o2wx is used.
