An aqueous coating composition comprises (a) a dispersion based on (meth)acrylate homo- or co-polymers obtained by emulsion polymerization in presence of a protective colloid; and optionally the following components (b) pigments and/or fillers at pigment volume concentration 0-30%; (c) flow agents; (d) coalescing agents; (e) polymeric thickeners; and (f) conventional additives. An independent claim is also included for production of the composition by (co)polymerization.
