A content distribution system and a license management method for performing, in a collective manner, license managements of a plurality of resources constituting contents. Each content comprises one upper-level resource (which is referred to first in the content), at least one lower-level resource (which can be referred to directly or indirectly from the upper-level resource), one startup document and a license-related document (which is a information file for performing, in a collective manner, license managements of the resources constituting the content). The startup document describes at least upper- level resource reference destination information and one or more license information for determining view licenses required for viewing the resources constituting the content.
