A method for making a joint in a permanent pipe under pressure by placing a coupling device (1) on the pipe and piercing the wall of the pipe at the point of placement, involves using a coupling (1) with an integrated drilling device with a drill bit (19) which works by driving the bit (19) towards the pipe wall and rotating it in such a way that it exerts a prestressing effect against the wall. An independent claim is included for a coupling device as above (1), comprising a housing (14) fitted with an application surface for fitting it into place against a pipe wall and a chamber with a coupling aperture, a mechanism for tightening the housing (with the application surface) against the pipe, and a drill with a drill bit (19) projecting into the chamber and worked by a sealed driving shaft passing through the chamber wall, the drill being mounted on rotating bearings and sliding longitudinally in the chamber wall.
