<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a management device and method for an image forming apparatus capable of setting an operating method that makes a reader read a non-contact type authenticating medium in accordance with the usage form of an image forming apparatus that can be used by making the reader read the non-contact type authenticating medium to obtain authentication of usage permission. <P>SOLUTION: The management device comprises a non-contact type IC card communication part 102 for detecting a non-contact type IC card 40 and reading identification information formed in the detected non-contact type IC card 40, a composite-machine connecting part 107 for transmitting the identification information of the non-contact type IC card 40 read by the non-contact type IC card communicating part 102 to a composite-machine 20, and a management device control part 106 for instructing the composite-machine 20 to release the usage permissible state of the composite-machine 20, and the composite-machine 20 authenticates the usage permission based on the identification information of the non-contact type IC card 40 transmitted by the composite-machine connecting part 107. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
