PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal optical element having improved light resistance. SOLUTION: For example, the liquid crystal optical element 100 is a liquid crystal optical element 100 having substrates 101 with a pair of electrodes 102 in which one is at least transparent. The liquid crystal optical element 100 is provided with a liquid crystal polymer composite 107 which is sandwiched between the pair of the substrates 101 and changes from a transparent state to a scattering state by applying a voltage across the electrodes 102 and a light stabilizer contained in the liquid crystal polymer composite 107.
