PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can uniformly apply a pretreatment liquid to an image formation region of a recording medium. SOLUTION: Two pretreatment liquid applying devices 31 and 32 are of the same shape arranged in a conveying direction (direction of an arrow mark A), which apply the pretreatment liquid to the recording medium P while they are fixed extending in a paper width direction (direction of an arrow mark B) orthogonal to the conveying direction. Even when either of the two pretreatment liquid applying devices 31 and 32 becomes defective and the pretreatment liquid cannot be uniformly applied to the recording medium P, resulting in generation of unevenness of the pretreatment liquid, the pretreatment liquid is applied to the recording medium P by the other pretreatment liquid applying device to eliminate the unevenness.
