Hypoglycemic agents for oral administration comprise an inert carrier with 1,11-dicarboxymethyldisulphide or its C1-C4 alkyl esters: wherein R1 and R2 are hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl groups. The compounds may be administered singly, or in compositions containing a plurality of these compounds.
