An apparatus for separating cells and a method therefor are provided to be able to rapidly and conveniently separate the cells with high efficiency by applying magnetic force to the upper portion of a droplet cell mixture solution formed on a chip consisting of two plates. The apparatus(100) comprises a chip for a specific cell separation, a chip rotation portion for a specific cell separation(140), a magnet(130), a second plate moving tool(150), a chamber(160), inside of which the second plate moving tool is located, and a control portion(170). The chip comprises a first plate(110) having a cell mixture solution receiving portion where a cell mixture solution including a magnetic bead attached specific cell is received at one side, and a second plate(120) which is installed at the upper portion with being closely attached to one side of the first plate and includes a through hole formed with a diameter corresponding to a position and size of the cell mixture solution receiving portion, where the through hole forms a space portion by enlarging a diameter of the side surface facing to the cell mixture solution receiving portion with not directly being contact with the cell mixture solution receiving portion and the injected cell mixture solution is only absorbed into the portion not forming the space portion. The chip rotating portion rotates the first plate and the second plate to change the up and down thereof and generates a droplet cell mixture solution from the cell mixture solution received at the cell mixture solution receiving portion. The magnet is installed at the other side of the first plate and applies the magnetic force to the upper portion of the droplet cell mixture solution. The second plate moving tool moves the second plate to be separated from the first plate to allow the remaining except the specific cells, which is absorbed into the portion not forming the space portion of the through hole, to be completely separated from the specific cells. The control portion controls the rotation of the chip rotation portion and the second plate moving tool.
