PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium, which can favorably be recorded and reproduced with laser having the wavelength of 300-900 nm, and a new indol-3-one derivative.

SOLUTION: The recording layer of this optical recording medium includes the indol-3-one derivative expressed by general formula (1).
