<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire, with simple operations, information corresponding to a map, the latest map information, and a clear map image from a read map original and output it. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: an image reading section which reads the original as image data; a map discriminating section which discriminates, from the read image data, whether or not the original is a map to which its place-name is given; a place-name extracting section which extracts the place-name by character recognition from the image data discriminated to be a map; a communication section which communicates with a server storing map information wherein map data are made to correspond to the information and the place-name related to the map data; a map information acquiring section which acquires, on the basis of the extracted place-name, map information stored in the server; and an output processing section which outputs, from the acquired map information, map data and/or information related to the map data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
