PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television receiver capable of attaining digest recording with a very small data amount through the remarkable reduction of the amount of recorded image data. SOLUTION: When the television receiver receives digital broadcasting, a CPU 113 controls a signal system via a system bus 118 to extract a still picture of its video information and extracts caption information. Then the CPU 113 synthesizes the extracted still picture with the extracted caption information on the basis of the progress of the caption information and outputs the composite image to a recording apparatus 2.
