PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a swirl flow type melting furnace capable of restoring remaining thickness of an inner wall without stopping an operation. SOLUTION: This swirl flow type melting furnace comprises an inner wall thickness measuring means 25, 26, 27 for measuring a thickness of the inner wall 2 composed of fire-resisting material, an inner wall remaining thickness judging means 28 for determining the remaining thickness of the inner wall on the basis of measured values from the inner wall thickness measuring means, and slag viscosity adjusting means 11-14, 16, 17, 19, 20, 23 for adjusting viscosity of liquid slag on the basis of determination by the inner wall remaining thickness determining means.
