PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moisture-absorbing or humidifying material which has high moisture-absorbing action and does not cause troubles, e.g. leakage of absorbed water. SOLUTION: An enhanced humidifying charcoal 1 is composed of charcoal 2, e.g. sawdust charcoal and a salt 3, e.g. calcium chloride, carried (impregnated) in the charcoal 2. Having deliquescence, the salt 3 absorbs water vapor in the air to deliquesce and form an aqueous solution of the salt 3, or the salt 3 absorbs water vapor in the air to generate liquid water. The charcoal 2 has water-retaining (water-absorbing) properties: in other words, the charcoal 2 absorbs or adsorbs water and retains the absorbed/adsorbed water. Therefore, the charcoal 2 absorbs or adsorbs the water generated through the deliquescence of the salt 3 and retains the absorbed/adsorbed water. In the enhanced humidifying charcoal 1, the moisture-absorbing and the moisture-retaining action of the humidifying charcoal 1 are differentiated by causing the salt 3 having excellent moisture-absorbing performance to be held in the charcoal 2, and moisture is absorbed by the salt 3 while the absorbed water is retained (absorbed) by the charcoal 2.
