PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus capable of easily identifying the tissue included in a subject and highly precisely measuring the nature characteristics. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus comprises a transmission part 102 for generating driving signals to transmit ultrasonic waves to the subject which is periodically deformed with the stress, a receiving part 103 for receiving obtained echo with a probe 101 and generating received echo signals, an arithmetic operation part 151 for computing the thickness change waveform indicating the change of the distance between two arbitrary measuring points in the subject based on the received echo signals, a reference waveform generating part 117 for generating a plurality of viscosity characteristic reference waveforms, a comparing part 118 for computing the viscosity characteristic index indicating the degree of matching of the thickness change waveform and each viscosity characteristic reference waveform by comparing the thickness change waveform and the respective viscosity characteristic reference waveforms, and a viscosity coefficient determining part 121 for determining the viscosity coefficient based on the viscosity characteristic index.
