A deposition modeling system incorporates a drive mechanism (10) to feed a strand offilament (38) to create a model. The drive mechanism (10) comprises a pivot block (16) that is rotatably connected to a fixed block (14) and a motor (12) that rotates a drive shaft (46). A drive roller (26) is connected to the drive shaft (46) and an idler roller (30) is connected to an idler axle (32) that extends from the pivot block (16) in a substantially perpendicular direction to the direction of rotation of the pivot block (16) with respect to the fixed block (14) and in a substantially parallel direction to the drive shaft (46).
