<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of very accurately detecting the density of a toner image and also controlling the density of the toner image inexpensively by enhancing the sensitivity of a density sensor. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: a photoreceptor drum on which an electrostatic latent image is formed and which carries the toner image obtained by making the electrostatic latent image visible with toner; an intermediate transfer belt being an endless belt to which the toner image formed on the photoreceptor drum is transferred; the density sensor which detects the density of the toner image transferred to the intermediate transfer belt; and a cleaning device which performs cleaning to remove the toner image transferred to the intermediate transfer belt. In the apparatus, a transfer cycle in which cleaning is performed after the toner image of a predetermined pattern is formed on the predetermined spot of the intermediate transfer belt is repeated by the predetermined number of times in the initial stage of driving the intermediate transfer belt. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
