PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the safety of a vehicle by preventing the vehicle from starting erroneously in the opposite direction against driver's will. SOLUTION: In the case of a vehicle speed below a given speed, when a direction of a switching position of a speed change stage at an AT 17 and a facing direction of a driver DR doesn't coincide with each other, a gear shift of the AT 17 to the switching position is prohibited. After the gear shift of the AT 17 to the switching position has been permitted, the facing direction of the driver DR is estimated again.
