PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cavity resonator for ESR that is compatible with a superconducting magnet device for generating a static magnetic field in the vertical direction, has a large variable range of resonance frequency, and has high Q value. SOLUTION: The cavity resonator for ESR resonates in cylinder TM<SB>110</SB>mode where microwave magnetic field concentrates along a first plane including a cylinder shaft. The cavity resonator comprises a pair of semi-cylindrical resonator forming members facing each other on a cylindrical face side, two parallel conductor plates for blocking the upper and lower sides of the semi-cylindrical resonator forming members to prevent leakage of microwave, two parallel conductor plates for blocking the side face sections of the semi-cylindrical resonator forming members to prevent leakage of microwave. The semi-cylindrical resonator forming members are slid along the four conductor plates to vary the interval between the semi-cylindrical resonator forming members, thereby varying the resonance frequency of a cylindrical cavity formed of the two resonator forming members and four conductor plates.
