A mode switching unit of an image capturing device is provided to switch a mode of the image capturing device using the smaller number of switches than the number of modes to reduce the number of components and improve assembly productivity. A mode switching unit(10) of an image capturing device(1) includes a selection knob and a switching board. The selection knob includes first and second operating protrusions and switches the mode of the image capturing device to one of still image capture, power off, reproduction and recording modes. The switching board includes first, second and third mode switches that are turned on and off according to the first and second operating protrusions. The mode of the image-capturing device is switched to the still image capture mode when the first operating protrusion turns on the first mode switch. The mode of the image-capturing device is switched to the power off mode when the first and second operating protrusions turn off all the first, second and third mode switches. The mode of the image-capturing device is switched to the reproduction mode when the first operating protrusion turns on the second mode switch. The mode of the image-capturing device is switched to the recording mode when the first and second operating protrusions turn on the second and third mode switches.
