PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable phase control over both regions in a delay direction and an advance direction with regard to a camshaft phase upon starting an engine, and to ensure the control stability. SOLUTION: In a conventional camshaft phase variable device wherein fluctuation torque acting on a camshaft is utilized as driving force by selectively releasing one of wedge engagements for locking phase variations in both rotating directions, a first end part of a link member is rotatably connected to a clutch operating part 370 serving as a rotating member for selectively releasing one of the wedge engagements, and another second end part of the link member is connected, so as to be radially movable, to another rotating member provided with a cylindrical surface serving as a constituent part of a wedge engagement part. Next, the second end part is also restrained in a cam groove formed on another rotating member, and circumferential motion of another rotating member is controlled, thereby radially moving the second end part. By selectively releasing one of locks of the phase variations in both circumferential directions in the camshaft phase variable device, the phase variation in an optional direction is performed.
