PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus capable of highly precisely measuring nature characteristics by reducing the influence of noise, and capable of identifying the tissue. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus comprises a transmission part 102 for generating driving signals to drive a probe 101 for transmitting ultrasonic waves to a subject which includes a plurality of different tissues and which is periodically deformed with the stress, a receiving part 103 for receiving obtained echo with the probe and generating received echo signals, an arithmetic operating part 151 for computing the thickness change waveform indicating the change of the distance between two arbitrary measuring points in the subject based on the received echo signals, a reference waveform generating part 117 for generating a plurality of reference waveforms corresponding to the respective tissues, a thickness change quantity estimation part 118 for computing an index indicating the degree of matching of the waveforms by comparing each reference waveform and the thickness change waveform, and a tissue determining part 172 for determining to which of the plurality of tissues the tissue giving the thickness change waveform between the two measuring points is applicable.
