A efficient context adaption method and an apparatus thereof in a CABAC(Context Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding) process are provided to improve efficiency when information previously processed for blocks surrounding the current block is used and reduce the number of memories and bus accesses required for storing the neighboring information. A context adaption method in a CABAC process includes a step of determining the type of the syntax element of a next macroblock for which context adaption is carried out using neighboring information of the current macroblock(S100), a step of determining the condition and neighboring information to be used for context adaptation of the next macroblock on the basis of the type of the syntax element of the next macroblock(S110), a step of applying the determined condition to the determined neighboring information to generate a condition result(S120), and a step of storing the generated condition result(S130).
