PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a printer quickly determine whether a connected digital camera can conform to a photo-direct printing mode when the printer is directly connected to the digital camera.

SOLUTION: The digital camera manages a plurality of objects by numbering the objects including authentication information showing that the photograph direct print mode is supported. When the digital camera is connected with the printer, the printer issues a request to send each object toward the digital camera using the number (S29) in order that the printer may acquire the authentication information. The digital camera transmits the object of the required number to the printer (S45) whenever it receives this requirement. In this way, when the authentication information is transmitted to the printer from the digital camera, they shift to the photograph direct print modes (S34, S47). In order to accelerate this shift processing, the digital camera assigns a head number or near the head about authentication information.
