PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric converter that has a high sensitivity by avoiding a limit placed on the dynamic range and to provide a drive method thereof. SOLUTION: An amount Q0 of electric charges is precharged to pixels connected to a common gate line Vg1 for periods t<SB>2</SB>, t<SB>3</SB>and photoelectric conversion and discharging are applied to the pixels for a period t<SB>4</SB>to decrease the amount of electric charges by aΔQ. Then the precharged electric charges (amount of electric charges: Q0) are subtracted from the charges of the pixels for periods t<SB>5</SB>, t<SB>6</SB>to bring the remaining electric charges in storage capacitors of the pixels toΔQ.
