Rollable leather-textile support composite, useful e.g. for automobile interior cladding, obtained by bonding support to leather part by melting intermediate thermoplastic adhesive sheet

Production of a leather composite (11) involves bonding a textile support (1) to a leather component (4) via an adhesive layer (3), by melting an intermediate thermoplastic adhesive sheet (10). Some adhesive flows through openings (2) in the sheet onto the back of the support to form adhesive points (5) or a thin adhesive film (6); and some remains between the support and leather to form the adhesive layer. Production of a rollable leather composite (11) involves bonding a textile support (1) having a structure with many openings (2) to a leather component (4) via a thermoplastic adhesive layer (3). Adhesion is carried out by melting an open structured thermoplastic adhesive sheet (10) located between the support and leather components under pressure and heat, applied from the support side. The molten adhesive flows through the openings onto the back of the support (facing away from the leather) to form adhesive points (5) or a thin adhesive film (6). At least 10 (preferably at least 20)% of the initial weight of the adhesive sheet remains between the support and the leather and forms the adhesive layer. An independent claim is included for a leather composite obtained by the process, where the textile support is a knitted, woven or non-woven fabric, the area of the openings is at least 50% of the overall surface of the support and the support has an area weight of 10-150 (preferably 15-80) m2>/g.
