A backlight unit for an LCD and a light source are provided to generate a high-brightness light, by improving the arrangement of a plurality of light emitting diodes, which function as a light source. A backlight unit comprises a light source(210) for emitting a light, a reflective plate(220), and an inverse prism sheet(230). The reflective plate reflects the light emitted from the light source. The inverse prism sheet condenses the lights respectively emitted from the light source and reflected from the reflective plate. The prism-shaped portions of the inverse prism sheet are positioned close to the light source. The light source includes a plurality of light emitting diodes(212), which are disposed in predetermined inclination angles with respect to the reflective plate. |
