A liquid display apparatus comprises a light source (10) for emitting light having a high directivity, a reflection plate (20) for reflecting the light emitted from the light source (10), a liquid crystal layer (30) allowing the light reflected on the reflection plate (20) to pass through, a position detector (40) for detecting an eye position of the viewer (100) who view a display image and generating position information on the eye position, a reflection angle controller (50) for controlling the rotation angle of the reflection plate (20) based on the position information, and a light emission controller (60) for controlling the light emission intensity and light emission angle of the light source (10) according to the rotation angle of the reflection plate (20). This configuration can effectively radiate the light emitted by the light source (10) to the eyes of the viewer, thereby enhancing the visibility of the liquid crystal apparatus and reducing the power consumption thereof.
