PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gelling agent which can allow a silicone oil, a lowly polar organic compound, and a nonpolar organic compound to gel and to provide a gel-like composition. SOLUTION: The gelling agent comprises an organopolysiloxane having organic groups represented by formula (1) and bonded to silicone atoms. The gel-like composition comprises the gelling agent and a silicone oil, a lowly polar organic compound, or a nonpolar organic compound. In formula (1), R<SP>1</SP>is a metal carboxylate group represented by -COO<SP>-</SP>(M<SP>n+</SP>)<SB>1/n</SB>(wherein M is a univalent or higher-valance metal; and n is the valance of M); X is a 2 to 14C divalent hydrocarbon group; and p is an integer of 0 to 10.
