PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the effect of the individual difference of a light control element and to perform stable light-control processing. SOLUTION: The image display device is equipped with: a light control means which controls the illuminating light; a light quantity detection means which detects the quantity of the illuminating light; a light-control parameter adjusting means which determines the optical characteristic of the light control means based on the light quantity, and determines a light-control parameter for controlling the light control means based on the optical characteristic; an image parameter extracting means which extracts an image parameter at intervals of prescribed time from an image signal; and a light-control means which determines the light-control parameter related to the light-control processing from the light-control parameter based on the image parameter, and controls the light control means based on the light-control parameter.
