PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel suitable as a compact reel for frequent casting/reeling operations with a short handle length. SOLUTION: The fishing reel has the following construction: A bent part 27f bent toward the reel body 1 side is formed at the dragging part 27 of the handle shaft 20 of a braking force regulator 26 functioning to brake a dragging mechanism (friction disc 25) engaged to a drive gear 18 transmitting the rotation of a handle 21 to a spool 7. A bent part 21f following the shape of the bent part 27f is also formed on a handle arm 21a. With this construction, mutual interference in rotation between the dragging part 27 and the handle arm 21a is eliminated, shortening the length of the arm in the radial direction while bringing the handle arm 21a close to the reel body 1.
