A method and a system for providing a call waiting service are provided to allow a user not to feel bored during a call waiting state by providing music instead of a monotonous ring-back tone. A sound source providing server(430) maintains a terminal phone number and sound source information corresponding the phone number in a user database. When an origination terminal(410) connected for communication with the first reception terminal receives a call request from the second reception terminal, it displays the call request and receives permission of the call request from a user. A call control server(420) receives the permission from the origination terminal(410), changes the call connection state with the first reception terminal into a call waiting state, connects the call to the second reception terminal, and transmits a request for music supply to the first reception terminal in the call waiting state with the origination terminal(410) to the sound source providing server(430).
