A plasma display panel having a structure in which a pairs of display electrodes extending in the row direction are arrayed in the column direction on one side of a first substrate and discharge cells are arranged in regions defined by dividing the display electrodes along the column direction. Each display electrode includes a band-like electrode body. In each discharge cell region, each band-like electrode body has a portion which faces to the discharge gap between the paired display electrodes and has a cut shorter than the width, in the column direction, of the band-like electrode body. A peak of the electric field intensity is present in the electrode body regions disposed on both sides of each cut in the discharge cell region during the drive. Each display electrode is composed of a bus line and a transparent electrode both extending in the row direction, and each band- like electrode body can be the transparent electrode. ® KIPO & WIPO 2007
