An ink-jet image forming apparatus and a method of recovering a waste ink of the same are provided to prevent the maintenance motor moving the flatten from being overloaded by controlling size of the elastic force of the elastic member. An ink-jet image forming apparatus comprises an ink-jet head having a nozzle part; a flatten(60) formed with a printing position contacted with the nozzle part to support the rear of the paper and a maintenance position moved from the printing position to the injected direction and installed with a receiving part receiving the waste ink; a waste ink container(200); and a pumping unit interlocked with the movement of the flatten to pump the waste ink from the receiving part to the waste ink container. The pumping unit contains a waste ink tube(210) connecting the receiving part and the waste ink container, and a pressure member mounted at the flatten.
