<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of an AC direct converter that can instantaneously be started even at powering on, power restoration or the like after power interruption by generating an input current command without using a power supply phase detection means such as a PLL. <P>SOLUTION: In the AC direct converter such as a matrix converter that directly converts a multi-phase AC voltage to a multi-phase AC voltage of an arbitrary magnitude by using a semiconductor switching element, a control circuit of the matrix converter 2 comprises: a power supply voltage detection means 200 that detects a power supply voltage; an input current command generation means 201A that generates an input current command of the AC direct converter without detecting a power supply phase from the detected value of the power supply voltage; a PWM signal generation means 202 that generates a PWM signal of the matrix converter 2 on the basis of the input current command; and a power supply abnormality detection means 203 that detects a power supply abnormality.
